E-Notarizations & Remote Notarizations
Electronic Notary (E-Notary)
E-Notary and Remote Online Notary are not the same process but are similar. E-Notary involves notarization with electronic format. The signer and Notary Public are electronically signing documents on a device and within the same physical location. The same features of a traditional notarization apply to E-Notary. The signer(s) must physically appear before the Notary Public and provide identification. The E-Notary component allows for documents to be electronically filed and easily transmitted.
Remote Notary (RON)
Remote Online Notary (RON) provides a Notary Public the ability to acknowledge signatures or an act of individuals who are not physically located in the same location as the Notary. This transaction is conducted online rather than in person, which is allowed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The difference between E-Notary and RON is that RON is completed entirety online with the signer(s) and Notary Public are not in the same physical location.
Act 97 of 2020, effective October 29, 2020 allowed for Remote Online Notarizations (RON) a permanent part of Pennsylvania Law.
